If you consider yourself to be the kind of person who would be inclined to mysticism and the alignment of stars, then tarot reading is for you. Many people have been intrigued by the idea of getting to know themselves through the eyes of tarot so they can utilize that for their betterment. It can get really interesting to say the least. And for those who don’t know, tarot reading has been around for centuries and has been tested by time as a valid medium of insight. Hence, personal tarot reading can really be an extremely appealing activity. I myself have done it multiple times and the more I do it, the more comfortable and competent I become at it. Here are a few of the basic steps that you can take in order to learn how to read your own tarot:
Get a few tarot readings. I encourage you to try and get a tarot reading first before doing any of following steps so you would get a general idea of the flow and how the activity flows as a whole Just getting a general overview of how the whole things works and the vibes that go around with it would definitely get you on the right track faster than any first activity would. Whether you have tried one before or not, there are always tarot sites online that would give you ideas about astrology free of charge.
Get your very own Tarot deck. It will be quite difficult to proceed to read tarot without a tarot deck. That is the next step after you have gotten around to experiencing it from readings by actual readers The rest of it will really just follow. But this first step might be considered by some to be the most important one. This is simply because the more comfortable and relaxed you are about doing this, the better you get. You have to not feel weird about it. And possibly getting comfortable with your deck garners a considerable portion of your comfort in self-reading. In choosing the right deck, you have to rely on your guts and feelings. Although, they mostly differ only on design and illustration, the single most popular deck of tarot cards in use today is the Rider-Waite deck which even has its own variations. There are some decks that utilize artwork of the Middle Ages and early Renaissance in their design and interpretation. Some of these designs look so mesmerizing they’re almost hypnotic, or plain eerie depending on your perspective.
Understand the basic meaning of the cards. So after you have your own tarot deck, the next thing you’d want to do is to begin understanding what they mean. Now there are several layers of meaning that you can get from a spread of cards at one time. Getting to understand which meaning it really tries to say is the real kicker. Again, this is not hardcore, at least at first, because the cards themselves show clues as to what they mean respectively. Their pictures show signs of their meanings. But be careful because this doesn’t mean that you’d automatically understand what they actually mean. As you learn more about spread interpretation, you’ll realize that most of the cards are not as simple to interpret as simply looking at the pictures This requires experience. You might remember there are 78 cards in the deck and getting to understand all of them might be tricky at first but you’ll soon learn that there are several patterns you could follow to make this really easy. You can also just understand their basic meaning and do it for a few cards at a time. If you do it this way, slowly but surely, you don’t confuse one with the other. In lieu of taking things slowly at this stage of your training, it would also be a good time to practice your meditation as well. This can go well with trying to familiarize (and even memorize eventually) yourself with the cards’ meanings. Meditation and generally clearing your mind of outside forces is very important in tarot reading as it will allow you to see and feel the signs quite clearly. The idea is to relax so you’ll be able to read and understand the spread a lot better and more accurately.
Know the different tarot spreads. Once you have a pretty good grasp of what each of the cards mean, it would then be time to learn about tarot spreads. A spread is simply a pattern in which the cards are laid out on the table. Although it is a very basic thing to do, it has an extremely high impact on the how the reading will turn out. On the spread each position would have its own meaning and this usually involves the 3 different time perspectives: the past, the present and the future. Getting the whole meaning of the cards in a particular spread allows the reader to understand the subject and begin to have answers to their questions. Before doing the spread, you have to shuffle the cards first. That is always the first thing to do. Now, shuffling the cards also has different styles to it but for now, a simple shuffle would suffice. This is very important as well and some even believe that this particular task, where you let the subject touch the deck, is when the subject’s energy gets transferred to the deck. This, in turn, allows the deck to understand the subject as an individual and effectively provide answers for them in particular. After shuffling the tarot deck, you can proceed to pull out the cards individually and begin the spread. The most common spread is called the Celtic Cross. It basically involves the cards positioned in a 6-card cross on the left side and a 4-card vertical line on the right side. The order in which the cards are laid out is found in the image below. The spread which fits you right also depends on the type of issue that you would like to specialize in. For starters, you can start with the Celtic Cross spread as it is the most popular and it’s not too simple or complex which is perfect for beginners. However, as you get more experienced, it should come naturally that you’d want to explore this wonderful medium way more.
It’s Card Reading Time. This is crunch time. At this point, you should have all the necessary skills to be able to successfully and finally read the spread, their positions and respective meanings of each position. Simply follow these steps and get the ball rolling.
There you have it. That is basically the flow of tarot reading and once you take the first step of buying your very own deck, then you can go right in full steam ahead and explore the various aspects of this wonderful medium. Learning it is both a personal as well as a communal activity. I would like to stress again that this is merely the basics of the process flow and adding your own unique style to it is not only allowed but strongly encouraged. The more you do it, the more comfortable you get and better able to read the tarot’s answers. Happy tarot reading folks!
